Dear Staff, After much consideration and research we will be returning to our Hybrid model starting on Monday, January 11. Based on our data we feel this week of Distance Learning has proved to slow the spread of possible exposure and Covid cases within our district. I will be messaging parents this evening, but feel free to start sharing this information. I also want to reiterate the importance of reminding students and staff to stay home next week if they have symptoms, symptoms in the home, been exposed or have a positive case of COVID. Thank you for your continued support of our students and have a good evening. Spencer

This coming week we will be assess our Covid and exposure cases within the district to see if we need to reassess that schedule. Currently, we still plan to return to school in the hybrid model on January 11th. At this time our district nurse has asked me to reiterate to all staff and students that if you are sick, have symptoms, have symptoms in the home, or have been exposed at any time throughout the holidays to COVID, that we ask you to not return to school or work until you have been cleared to return by your doctor, school nurse or our local public health department. Hello Ishi Hills Families, We have a few days remaining before our Winter Break. Students, staff, and our families have been working hard during the first half of the school year. Please take this time to celebrate each other and to spend some quality time with family and friends (socially-distanced of course). It has been wonderful having our students back in their classrooms. Yesterday, a student stopped me in the hall. He told me how happy he was to be back in school. Further, he told me that learning in school was so much easier than learning from home. Being in-person comes with some challenges, but our aim is to keep students and staff healthy and safe. We continue to thank you for your support. It is important moving forward to check our website, Facebook, and Twitter for updates around COVID in regards to schools in our district. You can also get updates through our all calls home giving families important information. Please make sure to listen to the messages I send out. Don’t forget that you can also reach me anytime at 990-0160. Through our Remind app, I send out messages to parents. Dear Family, This is Superintendent Spencer Holtom with an important COVID update This afternoon it was announced that Butte County moved back into the Purple Tier. As I shared last week, falling back into Purple does not require us to move back into full Distance Learning. We will continue our current models of hybrid in person schooling, Independent Study known as IFLC and distance learning. Governor Gavin Newsom also announced changes to the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Almost all counties in the State of California are being moved to the most restrictive Purple Tier (regardless of their current tier status). This means that we need to remain extra vigilant with ourselves, with our students and with each other. I met with our district nurse Teri Woods today and discussed this matter. She reiterated the importance of constant and appropriate mask wearing, importance of social distancing and the following of all of our protocols. Self regulation and self checks are also a very key aspects of caring for the safety of ourselves and others. Parents and guardians please monitor your children very closely for temperature and other safety precautions before school every day. The district will continue to monitor the situation very closely on a daily basis as we move forward and will communicate any changes as they arise. The board will also be discussing this issue this coming Wednesday. Thank you again for working with us to keep everyone healthy and safe. Spencer

Dear Parents and Community Members: Our hearts go out to the students, teachers, and families who experienced the school shootings in Florida. These events are devastating for the victims, survivors, and communities and increase fear for students, parents, and educators throughout the country. In the Oroville City Elementary School District, all of us are working together to address training needs and safety concerns at the school sites. We appreciate all of the parents who are actively involved in this effort. To help students show solidarity for the Florida victims, an “#Enough” campaign is being promoted in the media for Wednesday, March 14. The purpose of this event is to give students an opportunity to safely and respectfully express their views for the 17 students who lost their lives in the Florida incident. The media is also promoting student walk-outs. Although OCESD supports the right for students to have civic engagement activities, we want all children to be safe. Here are the District expectations for the day: Any student-led activities must comply with OCESD policies and procedures and be deemed safe by the school administration. All activities must take place on the school campus. Students will not be allowed to leave school and non-students will not be allowed on the site. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal or Superintendent Penny Chennell-Carter, Ed. D.
