Welcome
Welcome to Bird Street School!
About Us
Bird Street Elementary School is located near the historic downtown area of Oroville, where the upper Sacramento Valley meets the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In 2008-2009, it housed 120 students from kindergarten through third grades. During the 2009-2010 school year we will house kindergarten through fourth grades. The original school built on the site, the Oroville Grammar School, was built in 1867. The school was rebuilt in 1912, and then again in 1967, after an earthquake. Many of the students at the school are children or grandchildren of students who have attended here over the years. Students of White, Black, Hispanic, American Indian, Asian, and Polynesian ancestry make up our student body.
Our mission is to equip all of our students with the cognitive, social, and academic skills that will enable them to be happy, successful, contributing members of society. Every Bird Street student will reach a high level of success in a nurturing environment with a partnership of parents and community that supports the development of the “whole child.” Every student CAN LEARN. We have the means to MAKE IT HAPPEN.
